It was their mutual lifelong passion for jazz and the American songbook which initially brought Scott Leishman and Anne-Lise Larsen together as the jazz guitar and vocal duo LL, an offshoot of the original band Machiniso. After a number of years playing together at notable Sydney venues, it became apparent to the duo that there was a continuing and deepening musical affinity. As Scott said, “We felt we were onto something”. The idea for their 2015 album ‘Yes, let’s…’ came from a mutual desire to capture their chemistry. ‘Yes, let’s…’ has received airplay on Sydney’s Northside Radio and Eastside FM including a live to air in-studio performance of an LL original called Impossibly You and the jazz standard Where or When.
The intimate space of guitar and voice fosters a spontaneity within the duo, keeping the essence of jazz improvisation alive. For Scott, finding the right singer in Anne-Lise allows him the scope for experimentation (spirit of jazz), whilst maintaining the essence or integrity of the material. Scott adds, “I can take liberties with the songs and I can trust Anne-Lise to be there with me”.
Scott Leishman is perhaps best known as a guitarist in the legendary Jackie Orszaczky band. Recently, Scott has reunited with his Jackie Orszaczky bandmates in the Budget Orszaczky Orchestra, performing at the 2017 Sydney Festival. Scott has an Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies from the NSW State Conservatorium of Music.
Anne-Lise Larsen has a Diploma of Music (Instrumental) from the Qld Conservatorium of Music where she studied cello. She moved to Sydney to pursue her other passion for singing and has since produced and released two solo recordings of self penned material and a number of instrumental releases. Her work as a session cellist includes playing on 2014’s Network Ten television show, The Bachelor.
Scott (bass) and Anne-Lise (vocals) feature together on the 2011 recording “In Lounge-O-Scope” by Machiniso which contains three original songs co-written by Scott with original members, plus Anne-Lise’s song “The Weather”.
As well as their vocal/guitar duo pursuits, LL performs as an instrumental duo at private functions and events with Anne-Lise on cello and Scott on guitar.
